New app bridges the gap between EHR and secure messaging, streamlines physician consults and reduces delays to patient care

Raleigh, N.C. November 14, 2017 – MD Interconnect, a mobile health technology company, today announced that its new RapidConnect Intelligent Consult Notification (ICN) app is now available through the Epic App Orchard, bridging the gap between EHR and secure messaging. This new app provides immediate notification of inpatient consult requests, optimizes care continuity and facilitates real-time communication between physicians while reducing delays in patient care.

Integration between Epic’s EHR platform and RapidConnect’s secure communication solution enable a referring provider to submit a consult order through Epic, prompting the immediate, secure and intelligent delivery of a message to the receiving provider. The date and time that the message is read is then recorded in the EHR automatically.

“Hospitals are investing in EHR technology, and want to get the most out of that investment. It makes perfect sense for a hospital’s secure communication solution to complement its existing EHR solution technology, to help further enhance patient care capabilities and maximize that investment,” explained David Hoover, MD, Chief Medical Officer at MD Interconnect.

Initial users at WakeMed Health & Hospitals, including hospitalists and cardiology services, are enthusiastic about the integration. “We are thrilled that we can now be notified immediately through our RapidConnect app when a provider enters a consult in Epic,” explains Director of WakeMed Physician Practices, Stacy Thiedman. “The great part is that the sender does not have to decide who to notify, since it is already set up to automatically direct those messages to the correct team members, depending on time of day, call schedules and work flow preferences.  The impact to our patients has been measurable and immediate because we have been able to greatly reduce the time from request to delivery.”

Created by physicians, for physicians, RapidConnect features a secure, HIPAA-compliant messaging platform for smartphones as well as a desktop version. Physicians, referring providers and other patient care providers can use RapidConnect to quickly reach the right provider at the right time. The solution allows inpatient and outpatient providers to coordinate consults, share results, communicate patient information, notify for patient arrivals, process admissions and more.

Unlike other solutions, RapidConnect intelligently routes each message to ensure delivery to the right provider, automatically taking call schedules, individual workflows, hierarchies and other variables into consideration.

To ensure a successful implementation and continuous user adoption, MD Interconnect provides all RapidConnect users with unparalleled implementation support and ongoing account management from experts with direct clinical experience. RapidConnect clients pay one flat fee, but receive unlimited app downloads throughout the entire health system including both inpatient and outpatient resources.
